The Legend of Pixiu

There I was, glancing through a plethora of jewelry items at a store. I didn't see anything that seemed magical to me. I wanted a bracelet of some sort that had a story to tell so I could share that knowledge with others as a conversation piece. For a while I strolled through the stores isles uninspired until I found a bracelet that stuck out to me. Low and behold, it was a beautifully crafted Jade Pixiu bracelet. My eyes couldn't glance away so I brought it home and was motivated to learn about what that beautiful bracelets meaning was. There are a few things that stood out to me with this bracelet:

Its material- Jade (Yu)-

Jade symbolizes protection, healing and good fortune. To elaborate specifically on a Pixiu Jade bracelet, I will be speaking more about that further into this post, however jade itself is a deeply powerful and elegant material that has been use for centuries and continues to be a staple in Chinese Culture. Many people believe that the more you wear your jade bracelet, the more clear it becomes as it is becoming more powerful. In Chinese culture, it is also believed that the cloudier your jade bracelet becomes, shows it is absorbing the negative energies around you, protecting its owner.

I remember seeing a significant amount of people wearing a bracelet of this sort, specifically in Flushing NY, as Flushing has a prominent Chinese population. As I continued to learn more from friends with Chinese backgrounds, I found that the Dragon Pixiu has quite the interesting tale behind it which leads to the second feature that attracted me to this bracelet I saw:

The Tale of Pixiu-

Originating from Chinese Mythology, Pixiu is a creature that brings prosperity and is a very valued part of Fengshui practices. This dragon-like entity possesses the head of a Chinese dragon and the body of a lion. The story of Pixiu is quite an interesting one, as Pixiu had broken the rules of Heaven and was eventually limited to eating only precious metals and other precious jewels as its diet. Due to its diet of precious and valuable materials, Pixiu is seen as a being who brings fortune and protection to its owner.

Good Practices While Wearing Pixiu-

When you wear your Pixiu bracelet, it's crucial to understand that Pixiu has preferences! Consider Pixiu as a cherished companion who has some influence on where, when, and how you adorn yourself with it.

Which Wrist do I Wear Pixiu?

To attract good fortune and direct positive energy towards yourself, you can wear Pixiu on your left wrist. This is the recommended placement for Pixiu, but if you prefer to channel energy and good fortune to others, you may also wear it on your right wrist.

Wearing Pixiu With Head Outwards-

It is important to ensure that Pixiu always has its head facing outwards, as this is believed to enhance its ability to attract more fortune and good luck for its wearer.

Cleansing Your Pixiu-

Many believe that purifying your Pixiu with running water can enhance its energy purity. Another option is to use sage to smudge your Pixiu, or you can cleanse it by placing it under moonlight.

Giving Pixiu TLC-

Remember to stroke Pixiu's head as a way to establish a bond with it, ensuring that it recognizes you as its owner and caretaker. Additionally, Pixiu is known to enjoy being placed in the living room of a house. It is commonly advised to remove Pixiu before showering or going to bed.

Overall, I adore having my Jade Pixiu and appreciate the story behind its role as a protector and guide for fortune. While some may find the instructions mentioned above somewhat demanding to adhere to, I personally find its requirements intriguing and enjoy the aspect of wearing it as a fun experience!
